Long Distance Customer Relationships

Because of the nature of my work I usually work with my customers through e-mail or on the phone. It seems to be that way even with the ones here in my area. One of my challenges is to discover how my customers idea of the design of the site differs from mine while working with them on the phone or by e-mail. Some of them know exactly what they want. Then my job is to make sure the navigation works smoothly, advise them how to best optimize the content for search, and then to plug in the content.

Then there the customers who aren't sure of what they want or they just don't know what they want. Then my job is to find out what their idea of a good site it, and why. Then, of course, make sure the navigation works smoothly, advise them how to best optimize the content for search, and then to plug in the content.

I have found that most of the work is in the first page. For a site to look and feel comfortable to the visitor the pages need to all have the same look and feel. Sometimes a client will pick a design right away, sometimes it will end up nothing like it started. Here's one that ended up with a completely different look than we started with.
