I have a page on my site with some of my favorite new sites that are showing up on the web. These are not my sites, but they are the kinds of things that I like in a website. There are different reasons that I picked these sites, they all look good and are clear and easy to use. The graphics are good, but not overpowering. Sometimes I just like a picture or the name. Some of them are not in English and I still know what they are about.
The newest one is called Go Montessori.
This site has a soft look with very nice graphics. All of the words, including the navigation, is in plain text.
This business seems to cater to a nitch market of just Montessori Schools. They have those words (again in plain test) as their keyword in the title, headlines and sprinkled throughout the page, but not so much that it sounds spammy. All great stuff for search engines.
A very well done site.

I keep spelling Lily as Lilly. Probably because of my last name, but I think that I got all of those fixed.
I think Old Timer & Lily is a very nice functional site.
Susan had a store on safeshopper.com and they sent a notice that they were closing. She needed a secure shopping cart quickly that she could maintain herself. OS Commerce is a good solution.
She runs a blog called loloschild and she knew about maintaining one, so having another one for her business is a good idea.
I think it’s a very comfortable site that visitors might like to hang around in. They have a good loyal customer base already, as evidenced by the fact that she started getting orders as soon as the site was up. If she keeps adding new content, which is pretty easy when you have a blog, there will be many new customers as well.

The newest one is called Max and Lou’s. You can see that this site is about food. Very good looking and appetizing food. The product pictures are very well done.
The menu is very cool, but is still done with plain text and CSS effects.
I would like to see more text for SEO, but this site looks great.

The newest one is called Supercycles. You know at first glance that this site is about Motorcycles. This is a business with the very first thing on the page is all of their contact information and store hours. The site navigation is right below and even though it is a dropdown list it’s still written as a plain text list (good for SEO).
There is a Flash animation, but it fits the site well and has nothing to do with the main navigation.

The newest one is called YouTube. Most everyone has heard of YouTube. I decided to use it now for one of my favorites because I’ve noticed that it looks more and more like Google every day. I don’t suppose that could be too bad. Simple and very functional.

The newest one is called MIT OpenCourseWare.
When a website is giving away a free MIT education the best thing a site can do is to just stay out of the way. Keep the site simply designed and easy to use and navigate.

The newest one is called FirstClass-Schools. I like the simplicity of this design. It’s crisp and clean with plenty of whitespace. I like the rounded corners they fit the site well and look smooth.
What they do and what they sell is right up front along with easy to find navigation. Overall the site looks and works well.
The one thing that I don’t like is the domain name. Their domain is firstclass-schools.com, but everywhere else on their site they just call themselves First Class. That makes their domain name less than memorable. Also FirstClass.com is a software company that is geared toward schools and firstclassschools.com is another different company. Any of these issues could get visitors typing the name into their browser confused and lost.

The newest one is called The Super Yacht Cup. It’s clear that this site is about sailing the world. Sailing is one of my favorite pastimes so I’m a bit biased. I think this site looks great, even their logo looks like a sailboat. I even like the way the globe fades off on the right side.
There are not many pages to the main navigation, but it’s right at the top and easy to use. Rounded corners are a bit more modern, but I like the way all of the square sections fit together.

The newest one is called All Decks and Carpentry. One quick look at this site and you know they build decks. Of course you need text for content, but if you took it out or changed the language you would still what this site is about. Navigation is easy to find and use, right at the top.
My only criticisms are minor.
If you are going to put a date on your copyright you should keep it current.
The links that are leaving the site should open in a new window. It can be very hard to get back to any site once you have left it.
The links at the bottom of the page in white text are difficult to read.
Many sites these days are centering their content. Putting the content on the left of the page is a bit of a throwback and I think it may help this site stand out from the crowd

The newest one is called Radiant Plumbing. Having been in the plumbing parts business myself I may look at theses sites with more of a critical eye than most visitors. This is a site that does something I think is very hard, make plumbing look fun.
You get a happy look that looks like tile so you know at first glance it’s something for the kitchen or bathroom. The navigation is right at the top and easy to use.
I like the picture of the employee (owner?) right on the first page to give them a more personal appeal.
